Hi, welcome to my homepage.

Something about myself

I was born in Gent in Belgium in 1977, and grew up in Oudenaarde. After finishing high school in 1995 I went to university at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, also in Belgium. I studied Commercial Engineering in Management Informatics, which is business studies with additional maths, engineering and informatics. During these studies I went on an Erasmus exchange program to the University of Edinburgh in 1998. In October 2000, after I finished my studies in Belgium, I went back to Edinburgh to do an MSc in Artificial Intelligence, and afterwards I stayed on there as a research assistant for Dr. Chris Williams. In 2002 I left Scotland, and after some time in Belgium I moved in November 2002 to Lugano, Switzerland, to do a PhD. I am part of the new faculty of informatics of the Universita Svizzera Italiana (USI), but do most of my research at the Dalle Molle Institute for Artificial Intelligence (IDSIA). From April till July 2006 I did a 3 month internship in Berlin at Deutsche Telekom Laboratories. In September 2007, I finished my PhD at IDSIA (picture of me happy at the ceremony :) ). After that, I continued working at IDSIA, as a researcher in Swarm Intelligence and Swarm Robotics (within the context of the Swarmanoid project). In September 2011, I changed carreers. I went to work for VADIS, a data mining company in Belgium, as a research engineer and analytical consultant. If you want to read more details about me, have a look at my cv.
